What a surprise it was for Frank and Frances Romanick
when they visited Poland in June 1990. They knew they were going to visit
Frank's First Cousin Peter Symochko's family in Hanczowa.
Then we traveled to Blekhnarka a very small village,
some 25 miles south of Hanczowa. Unknown to us, we didn't know anything
about our second cousin, Hilar and Melanie Symochko and their three children,
Miroslaw, Andrew and Anna. They own a very small farm in Blekhnarka We
enjoyed our visit with them, particularly after we found out they were
our relatives. Frank's mother, Mary Symochko and Hilar Symochko's father
were first cousins. Frank's grandfather, John Symochko and Hilar's grandfather
Hilar were brothers.
In 1991 Hilar died of a heart attack and Melanie and
her three children were having a rough time in making ends meet.
