St. Michael the Archangel

1920

Unlike the majority of others in this region, this tserkva is of stone construction. It was built on the site of an older wooden tserkva from 1777, and is of traditional Boyko rather than Lemko style. It is interesting to note that at the turn of the century, in 1909, out of 720 inhabitants, 150 left for North America as immigrants. The tserkva was converted to a Polish Roman Catholic kostel immediately after the expulsion of the Lemkos in 1946. ZHEGESTIV
