MOKHNACHKA NYZHNYA
In 1873 there was an outbreak of cholera in the area, and about 15 percent of the population died. The countryside is not very fertile, so as a result we find 480 inhabitants, 30 percent of the population, having ventured to North America as immigrants or laborers. It should be pointed out that many villagers were tenants on the land they tilled. They would emigrate to USA as laborers and upon their return purchase their land from the landowner. The tserkva is now used as a Polish kostel, but the older chapel appears unused, even though it is restored.
